Indian Prime Minister
Narendra Modi and his Mauritian colleague Pravind Jugnauth virtually launched a project for
India-assisted social housing units in Mauritius. They also lay the groundwork for the
Civil Service College
and an
8 MW Solar PV Farm, both of which are being funded by India. They also inked a deal to extend a
USD 190 million line of credit from
India to Mauritius for the Metro Express and other development projects, as well as a
Memorandum of Understanding on the implementation of modest development projects.
The two countries also concluded contracts for
India to provide approximately $200 million in support for a
metro rail and other construction projects in Mauritius, as well as small but high-intensity development activities in fields like
education, medical services, and disaster prevention, at a virtual event attended by the
prime ministers.
In his opening remarks,
Modi ji
referred to the two sides'
long-standing links based on history, genealogy, culture, and the seas of the
Indian Ocean, saying that the development cooperation has become a
fundamental pillar in the close ties.
