Who elects the members of Rajyasabha?

Rajya Sabha MPs are chosen by one single vote by the election process of the selected participants of the State Assembly under a fair voting process.

A Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament in the Indian state's member in one of India's two houses. The Indian Parliament is bicameral, with two houses: the Rajya Sabha and the Lok Sabha. The Rajya Sabha has a smaller population than the Lok Sabha and has lesser authority. Membership in the Rajya Sabha, unlike participation in the Lok Sabha, is a government institution that cannot be disbanded at any moment. However, one-third of the members leave every 2nd year, and gaps are replaced by new elections and Presidential nominees at the start of every third year.

To be eligible to serve in the Rajya Sabha, a candidate must meet all of the following requirements:
  • must be an Indian citizen
  • thirty years old
