The book “The End of India” was written by a renowned Indian Author, Lawyer, Diplomat, Journalist, Historian, Critic and Politician “Kushwant Singh”. He wrote the book as experiencing certain blood-shed after India’s freedom. Kushwant Singh was India’s best-known Writer and Columnist. He was the founder-editor of ‘Yojana’ and the Editor of Illustrated Weekly of India, The National Herald and Hindustan Times from the time period of the 1970s and 1980s. He has been the Member of Parliament (M.P.) from 1980 to 1986 in Rajya Sabha, the Upper House of the Parliament of India.
He has been awarded the Padma Bhushan in 1974, but he returned the award in 1984 for the protest against ‘Operation Blue Star’. In this operation the Indian Army raided Amritsar. Later, in 2007 he was awarded the Padma Vibhushan, the 2nd Highest Civilian Award in India.
He died of a Natural death on March 20, 2014, in Delhi at his residence, at the age of 98. In 1943 he had already written his own obituary, included in his collection of short stories Posthumous. Under the headline "Sardar Khushwant Singh Dead".
