Accounts of India’s Green Revolution often focus on higher crop yields and food security. I’m curious about how those changes played out for small farmers, especially in regions where access to irrigation, credit, and new seeds varied widely.
Did the gains reach small landholders at roughly the same pace as larger farms, or did the cost of adopting new methods create a different set of pressures? I’d also be interested in how the effects differed across states.
