Muthuvel Karunanidhi Stalin, popularly known as MK Stalin, is an Indian politician and the current president of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) political party. He is a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Kolathur constituency in Tamil Nadu. He is the son of veteran politician M. Karunanidhi, former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, and the younger brother of another veteran politician M.K. Azhagiri.

M.K. Stalin was born on March 1, 1953 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. He completed his schooling from the Don Bosco School in Chennai. He pursued a Bachelor's degree in History from Loyola College, Chennai and a Masters degree in Public Administration from the Madras University. He was a student leader in the college days and actively participated in the Dravidian movement.
Stalin entered politics in the early 1980s and was appointed as the Minister for Rural Development and Local Administration by the then Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi in 1989. He went on to hold various portfolios such as Minister for Public Works, Minister for Social Welfare and Minister for Information Technology. In the 2006 Assembly Elections, he was elected to the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly. In 2010, he was appointed as the Deputy Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
In 2017, after the death of M. Karunanidhi, Stalin assumed the role of President of the DMK party. Under his leadership, the DMK won the 2021 Assembly Elections in Tamil Nadu and Stalin was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on May 7, 2021.
Stalin has always been vocal about his views on various issues. Recently, he made a statement about cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni. During a press conference, he said that Dhoni is the pride of the nation and his achievements in cricket are a source of inspiration for the youth. He said that Dhoni deserves a Bharat Ratna for his contribution to cricket and that the state government will recommend his name to the centre for the award. He also said that the contributions of Dhoni to cricket have made him a source of pride for the entire nation and that the youth should draw inspiration from his example.
Stalin’s statement is indeed a befitting tribute to the achievements of Dhoni.
