Bangladesh is a small South Asian country. It is bordered by India to the east, west, and north, and by Myanmar (Burma) to the southeast. Bangladesh is one of the most densely populated countries in the world, with a population of over 160 million people.

The official language of Bangladesh is Bengali, and the majority of the population is Sunni Muslim. Bangladesh is a founding member of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC). Bangladesh is a developing country with a growing economy. The country's per capita income was $1,190 in 2016. Bangladesh is a member of the Commonwealth of Nations, the United Nations, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.

Bangladesh is a developing country, and is one of the poorest countries in the world. The economy of Bangladesh is primarily based on agriculture, but the country has also developed a significant manufacturing sector, particularly in the textile and garment industries. Bangladesh is a member of the World Trade Organization, and its currency is the taka. 

Bangladesh has close relations with its neighbors, India and Pakistan. Bangladesh is also a member of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the Non-Aligned Movement.

Bangladesh has friendly relations with the majority of its neighbors, particularly India. Bangladesh is also one of the Organization of the Islamic Conference's founding members (OIC). In 2016, the United States provided $143 million in development assistance to Bangladesh. The United States also provides development assistance to Bangladesh through the United States-Bangladesh Partnership for Growth (PFG) and the Bangladesh-American Enterprise Fund (BAEF).

• The United Kingdomis another of Bangladesh's major development partners. The United Kingdom provides development assistance to Bangladesh through the Department for International Development (DFID).

In 2016, the United Kingdom provided £153 million in development assistance to Bangladesh. The United Kingdom also provides development assistance to Bangladesh through the Bangladesh-UK Partnership (BUKP) and the Bangladesh-British Enterprise Fund (BBEF).

• Germany is another of Bangladesh's major development partners. Germany provides development assistance to Bangladesh through the German development bank, KfW.

In 2016, Germany provided €194 million in development assistance to Bangladesh. Germany also provides development assistance to Bangladesh through the Bangladesh-German Partnership for Growth (BGPG) and the Bangladesh-German Technical Cooperation (BGTC).

• Japan is another of Bangladesh's major development partners. Japan provides development assistance to Bangladesh through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

In 2016, Japan provided ¥20.6 billion (US$183 million) in development assistance to Bangladesh. Japan also provides development assistance to Bangladesh through the Bangladesh-Japan Partnership (BJP) and the Bangladesh-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (BJEPA).
