What is a freenet?

• Freenet is open-source software that allows users to share data with one another over the Internet while maintaining strict privacy protections. Freenet is a decentralised network that promotes freedom of expression without censorship.
• Freenet may be described as an Internet within the Internet since it allows users to anonymously share data by sharing bandwidth and hard drive space (known as data store). Users are not limited to exchanging files and may use Freenet for any purpose.
• Ian Clarke created the Freenet software and data storage concept, although the system has been under ongoing improvement since 2000. In terms of both security and interactivity, Freenet is distinct from standard peer-to-peer sharing programmes. Freenet may only be used to access content that has been uploaded to the network.
