Steps to stop freezing with Skype video chat:
- Select System Preferences from the drop-down menu. Select Security & Privacy from the drop-down menu. At the top of the page, select the Privacy tab. To manage app permissions, go to the left hand column and click on Camera or Microphone.
- Check the boxes next to Skype or any other app for which you want to give camera or microphone access. Untick the boxes for apps you don't wish to provide permission to at the same time.
- If your Mac camera doesn't seem to work with Skype, it's possible that it's incompatible. If you or the person on the other end is using an outdated Skype version, such as ver. 2.8 or older, video calls utilising the Skype app may not go through. Both parties must use the most recent Skype version to make video calls and use the camera.
- From the Apple menu, choose System Preferences.
- To see whether there are any updates, go to Software Update.
- If updates are available, click the Update Now button to download and install them. You may also click More info to learn more about each update and select which ones to install.
