- Select the three vertical dots in the upper-right corner of your Chrome web browser.
- From the drop-down menu, choose Settings.
- Select Advanced from the left-hand vertical menu.
- From the submenu that appears, select Privacy and security.
- Select Site Configuration.
- Select PDF documents from the Permissions list of options by scrolling down.
- To turn the feature on or off, click the toggle switch next to Download PDF files instead of automatically opening them in Chrome.
- Select a PDF document file in Chrome to test the configuration modification. You should see the file download to your computer if you enabled the setting. The PDF should open in a new tab in Chrome if you disabled the option.
- If you disable the setting so that the PDF file is downloaded rather than opened in Chrome, the file will open in your normal PDF software.
