NHRC is a statutory body, it was established in 1993 to protect human rights. Main function of NHRC is to enquire into any violations of human rights in the country either by suo moto or by a petition presented to it or by an order of court. Since its inception, it had widely dealt with number of issues like farmer suicides, fake encounters, POTA, status of women, bonded and child labour, discrimination based on caste, religion, sex, ethnic origin etc. It has nexus with NGOs to have a complete jurisdiction as there a masses who unfortunately are even unaware of the simple existence of NHRC. It has the power of civil court and thus it can summon and ask for affidavit from any (https://cbseneet2019.co.in/the-making-of-the-constitution-of-india/ )body as the other party is bound to follow it. It has to look into the matters of human right violation within one year of its occurrence. - Vipin Kumar05-Mar-2020
