When the United States entered World War I in April 1917, it began a new chapter in its history as a major world power. Initially, the US declared war on Germany and its allies, but there was no immediate military action. However, this changed in June 1917 when the US Navy began to aggressively patrol the North Sea, the waters around Britain, and the waters around the Mediterranean Sea.

The US Navy and Army Air Corps immediately made their presence felt in the war, launching aircraft raids on German cities, destroying naval vessels, and helping to blockade the German-occupied ports. In addition, US troops were sent to Europe to join in the fighting.

The first major US attack on Germany took place in September 1918 when US forces launched a major offensive in France. This was followed by several other operations over the next few months, including the Battle of Saint-Mihiel, which resulted in a decisive victory for the Allies.

The next major US offensive took place in November 1918, when US forces launched the Meuse-Argonne Offensive. This offensive was the largest battle fought by the US in World War I. By the end of November, the US forces had captured over 24,000 prisoners and over 200 German guns.

The US continued to be a major force in the war, launching several additional offensives in the spring of 1919, including the Battle of Amiens and the Second Battle of the Marne. Eventually, the Allied forces were able to push the German forces out of France and the war ended in November of that year.

The US had made a major contribution to the Allied victory in World War I, and its entry into the war was a major turning point in the conflict.
