Secure Wi-Fi networks, as the name indicates, are password-protected. The lock icon next to the network name indicates that a wireless network is secure. You must enter the right password in order to connect to a secure network. Here's how to connect your new iPhone to a secure Wi-Fi network:

  1. On your Home screen, go to Settings.
  2. Select Wi-Fi. Make sure Wi-Fi is turned on or enabled.
  3. To connect to a secure Wi-Fi network, tap the name of the network.
  4. Enter the network's proper password.
  5. Join by using the Join button.

If you are unable to press Join, the password you entered is invalid. If you're still having trouble, try entering the proper password again or contact the network administrator for help.

After you have successfully joined the network, you will see a checkmark next to the network name, and the Wi-Fi signal strength indicator is shown in the upper-left side of your screen.
