The
Red Sari (El sari Rojo) is a dramatized
biography of Sonia Gandhi, written in
Spanish
by Javier Moro and first published in
Spain
in October 2008. In India, it sparked some debate.
Indian National Congress lawyers and
spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi sent emails to
Javier Moro's
Spanish
and
Italian publishers, requesting that the book be removed from stores. The book, according to Singhvi, misrepresented facts and misconstrued information. The book's author has consistently denied that it is malicious.
The story of the Gandhi family is told through the perspective of Sonia Gandhi in this book. According to Abhishek Singhvi, the book infringed on a person's privacy for monetary advantage. In
January 2015, the book was eventually launched in India, and it was a huge hit.
While both of them were studying in
Cambridge in 1965,
Sonia Maino, a 19-year-old Italian student, met
Rajiv Gandhi, a young Indian lad. Her father was a strict guy who kept a careful check on his three daughters, and she grew up in a humble home in suburban
Turin. His very shy middle daughter, over whom he was particularly protective, fell in love with a guy from
India's most powerful family, to his disgust. This was the start of a unique story about a carefree Italian girl forced to enter the murky world of rajneeti. This book investigates how Sonia's courage, honesty, and dedication have earned her the title of leader in the eyes of one-sixth of humanity, based on information from intimate friends and colleagues.
The Red Sari is the story of a remarkable woman whose aspirations of a home, a hearth, and a life of anonymity were shattered by fate. From her idyllic childhood to her passionate love affair, and from her days as a docile daughter-in-law to her current status as the only Indian politician to have refused prime ministership – The lives of the famous
Nehru-Gandhi family are examined in this book against the backdrop of events such as the
Bangladesh War, the Emergency, Operation Blue Star, and other events that have influenced modern Indian history. The actual story of a naive young woman confronted by the difficult and hazardous world of Indian politics and surrounded by the intrigues of a family that is both loathed and adored is told by author Javier Moro, a relentless investigator.
