Only John Hill, Pele, and Arthur Friedenreich are known to have scored more than 1,000 goals in their careers.
Only 'official games' are counted by RSSSF, and no one has yet scored 1,000 goals.
The following is the list
  • #1: Czech Republic - Josef Bican - 805 goals from 530 matches
  • #2: Brazil - Romario - 772 goals from 993 matches
  • #3: Brazil - Pele  - 767 goals from 831 matches
  • #4: Hungary - Ferenc Puskas - 746 goals from 754 matches
  • #5:  Germany - Gerd Muller - 735 goals from 793 matches
  • #6: Portugal - Cristiano Ronaldo  - 700 goals from 973 matches
  • #7: Argentina - Lionel Messi  - 672 goals from 828 matches
  • #8: Hungary - Ferenc Deak  - 576 goals from 822 matches.
Gerd Mueller scored 'just' 658 goals in League games, according to German Wikipedia. Now add 68 goals scored while playing for the German national team: 658+68=736, which is close to the 735 mentioned above. And one more statistic: he scored 1455 documented goals in 1204 games (1.2 goals per game) with his team, including cup and friendly games.
