Only **John Hill, Pele, and Arthur Friedenreich** are known to have scored more than **1,000 goals in their careers**. Only **'official games' are counted by RSSSF**, and **no one has yet scored 1,000 goals**. The following is the list

- #1: Czech Republic - **Josef Bican** - 805 goals from 530 matches
- #2: Brazil - **Romario** - 772 goals from 993 matches
- #3: Brazil - **Pele** - 767 goals from 831 matches
- #4: Hungary - **Ferenc Puskas** - 746 goals from 754 matches
- #5: Germany - **Gerd Muller** - 735 goals from 793 matches
- #6: Portugal - **Cristiano Ronaldo** - 700 goals from 973 matches
- #7: Argentina - **Lionel Messi** - 672 goals from 828 matches
- #8: Hungary - **Ferenc Deak** - 576 goals from 822 matches.

**Gerd Mueller scored 'just' 658 goals in League games**, according to **German Wikipedia**. Now add 68 goals scored while playing for the German national team: **658+68=736**, which is close to the **735 mentioned above**. And one more statistic: **he scored 1455 documented goals in 1204 games (1.2 goals per game) with his team, including cup and friendly games.**
