Weight classifications for
badminton
rackets are indicated by the letter
'U.' The
average
badminton racket weighs between
80 and 95 grams. A
heavier racket is typically preferred by
skilled players. Heavier rackets acquire more momentum and are more successful at conveying the
shuttlecock's maximum speed and force.
Beginners should use lightweight rackets since they are gentler on the wrist and shoulder and provide better control. Lighter rackets are ideal for club or social players since they allow players to produce rapid serves and easily transition between strokes.
In today's market, the
most popular
badminton rackets are 3U (85-89 g) and 4U (80-84 g). Before stringing, the weight is determined.
Most players consider 84-85 grams to be medium weight, as it is neither too
light nor too
heavy. Anything below that is considered light, while anything over it is considered heavy.
A heavier racket will clearly provide more power, and it will also shake less while striking the shuttlecock. A heavier racket, on the other hand, plainly lowers the racket's mobility.
A contemporary badminton racket's weight is usually specified in the 'U' standard. One thing to keep in mind is that a single racket model may come in a variety of weights to fit the demands of various players.
