The Union Minister for Road Transport, Highways and Shipping of India, Mr. Nitin Gadkari had recently announced that a lump sum of 1,250 crore INR has been sanctioned for overall development of inland water transport of Assam.
It is stated in an official release that, the construction of 56 terminals for which Rs.36 Crore and for Ro-Ro service Rs.60 Crore will be utilized.
A ferry service in which people and goods along with their vehicles would be ferried is called Ro-ro i.e. ‘roll-on, roll-off’ service.
