The Union Minister for Road Transport, Highways and Shipping of India, **Mr. Nitin Gadkari** had recently announced that a lump sum of 1,250 crore INR has been sanctioned for overall development of inland water transport of **Assam**.

It is stated in an official release that, the construction of 56 terminals for which Rs.36 Crore and for Ro-Ro service Rs.60 Crore will be utilized. A ferry service in which people and goods along with their vehicles would be ferried is called R**o-ro i.e. ‘roll-on, roll-off’ service.** \
