Brown v. Board of Education is often described as a turning point in US history, but I’m interested in how the case reached the Supreme Court in 1954. What had changed in the legal and political arguments around school segregation by that point?
I’d also like to understand how the case fit into the longer work of civil rights lawyers and families challenging segregated schools. Was the timing driven mainly by the cases themselves, changing public attitudes, or developments within the courts?
