Teachers are in a position to help develop students’ critical-thinking and problem-solving abilities, which are the tools to successful future lives and academic endeavors. To develop these skills for the practice, teachers need to go beyond the mere lecturing and help or force students to think, to question, to analyze and to solve problems, when looking at them from different angles.

Another set workable plan is the utilization of project based learning for the students to solve real problems. This makes them work in teams, make decisions and solve problems in a rather innovative way challenging all the time. This is so since students are made to reason through various issues so as to find practical solutions to them.

Another type of questioning involves questions for which the goal is discussion of issues, questions which cannot be answered by simply providing one word responses or yes/no answers. To this end, the style of the simplistic answer should be replaced by thinking questions that educators ask their students. These questions should be those that will force the participants to set presuppositions, compare disparate perspectives, and draw conclusions. In this manner, racial matters are less emphasized by educators so that students feel at ease while coming up with or voicing concepts in their thoughts.

However, increasing independence in learning is a significant way in enabling the growth of critical thinking. Teachers are resources that engage students and help them to lead them in discovering certain issues on their own. He/She also acquires confidence in furthering knowledge and skills to accomplish the tasks self-study; analysis and critical thinking skills in particular.
