Teachers have to help students to have interest to learn and to contribute something out from them; as well as teaching them to think critically. Introducing an element of exploratory and questioning, enables the student to put into practice what he or she has learnt. Active learning is a process of making the students engage in thinking academically by various means.

Inquiry based learning aims at having the students come up with as many inquiries about the topics as they can, and explore them fully. One of them is that the teacher can develop lessons through which students have to analyze, evaluate and offer some conclusions. This enhances critical thinking due to the fact that learners get engaged in problem solving and therefore interact with the material in a manner that enriches critical analysis.

Group discussions and group projects are effective in making the learning process as engaging and thinking as much as possible. Through such interactions, the students are able to communicate, negotiate and even argue on different ideas and even solve a lot of problems analytically. These interactions enable the students to think on their own as they also incorporate different views as a way of gaining a better understanding of concepts as well as being able to analyze.

How can teachers effectively engage students in active learning and critical thinking

Applying knowledge to the actual lessons adds realism and would make students understand the importance of concepts learned in class. It can be used by teachers to provide appendices in form that relate the concept to practice by incorporating case studies, projects and simulations. This helps the students in developing critical thinking and reasoning thereby making it an effective strategy for learning. This is so because additional activities such as debates or experiments arising from the materials makes the activity more interesting and enhances understanding of the issues under study.

Technology and other interactive tools come in handy in the improvement of class participation and improved thinking. Technology enhanced learning through the use of the internet, games, and other multimedia enhance the learning process of the students. The effective use of technology in the classroom allows the educators to incorporate educational applications, online discussions, and virtual simulations that make students more participative and enhance their analytical thinking abilities by giving them more engaging dimensions of education.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Teachers should adopt multiple approaches toward making the teaching and learning processes more effective and enhancing students’ critical thinking abilities. In this regard, educators have to support students’ questioning, encourage students to work in groups, and connect class activities to real-life situations as well as integrate technology into the learning process. It also guarantees a much better understanding of the materials and gives students useful tools for the future.
