The IDB provides financing for a wide range of projects, including infrastructure development, education, health, and agriculture.

The OIC also plays an important role in promoting cooperation in the areas of education and culture. It has established several institutions, including the Islamic Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (ISESCO), which promotes education, science, and culture in the Muslim world, and the Research Centre for Islamic History, Art and Culture (IRCICA), which focuses on the preservation and promotion of Islamic cultural heritage.

Another important function of the OIC is to provide a platform for its member states to coordinate their positions on international issues and to promote the interests of the Muslim world in the international arena. The organization works to promote dialogue and cooperation between the Muslim world and other regions and civilizations, with the aim of fostering greater understanding and respect among nations and peoples.
