Humanity has a long and bloody history. From the moment we first picked up a weapon, we've been fighting and killing each other. Throughout the years, there have been many horrific moments that serve as a reminder of just how brutal and violent we can be.
Horrific Moments of Humanity
1. The Holocaust
The Holocaust was one of the most horrific moments in human history. It was a genocide in which Nazi Germany killed six million Jews. The Nazis also killed other groups of people, including Romani people, homosexuals, and people with disabilities.
2. The Rwandan Genocide
The mass killing of the Tutsi people in Rwanda by Hutu people is known as the Rwandan Genocide. Between 800,000 and 1,000,000 Tutsis are thought to have perished. Women and children made up the majority of the victims.
3. The Bosnian War
The Bosnian War was an ethnic conflict in Bosnia and Herzegovina that lasted from 1992 to 1995. During the war, Bosnian Serb forces committed atrocities against Bosniak and Croat civilians, including the Srebrenica massacre, in which over 8,000 Bosniak men and boys were killed.
4. The Armenian Genocide
The wholesale murder of Armenians by the Ottoman Empire during and after World War I is known as the Armenian Genocide. According to estimates, 1.5 million Armenians died.
5. The Khmer Rouge
Cambodia was governed by the violent Khmer Rouge from 1975 until 1979. An estimated 1.7 to 2.5 million people, or nearly a quarter of Cambodia's population, were slaughtered by the Khmer Rouge while it was in power.
6. The Nanking Massacre
During the Second Sino-Japanese War, Japanese forces executed Chinese citizens in large numbers in the Nanking Massacre. An estimated 300,000 or more Chinese people died.
7. Syrian conflict
The conflict in Syria has led to some of the worst atrocities of our time. The Syrian civil war has killed hundreds of thousands of people and displaced millions more. The conflict has also given rise to the terrorist group known as ISIS, which has committed some of the most horrific acts of violence in recent memory.
These are just a few examples of the many horrific moments in our history. They serve as a reminder of the dark side of humanity, and of the capacity for evil that exists within us all.
