How many wives did the Prophet Muhammad have?

Muhammad, the prophet of Islam married 12 wives in his life, and when he died he had 9 wives. Muslims hold a very special status for all the wives of Prophet Muhammad. According to the Quran, they are considered the 'Mothers of the Believers.' These women are a great source of wisdom for the people as they got to learn while being close to the great man. Prophet Muhammad hadn't gotten married 12 times for the factor of lust. This is because he spent most of his life away from home serving his numerous duties as a Prophet. His wives also led a life of labor and sacrifice. Muhammad remained single till the age of 25. He was honest and faithful to his only wife, Khadijah. Rest marriages he did for noble reasons. One of the wives of Muhammad was a widow and many of them were above the age of 40 when they married him.

Wondered, what was the reason for the marriages of Prophet Muhammad?

Muhammad's marriage was the door to many learning lessons for life, which are as follows:

  • To pass the legacy of Islam to the next generations.
  • To strengthen the relations of the nation.
  • To teach Muslims compassion for women and start considering women as role models to the Muslims until the end of time.

This was the Prophet Muhammad’s marriage life. His only motive was to continue spreading peace and blessings.
