The JD(U) abandoned its state partnership with the BJP because of 'Nitish's declining popularity, growing national ambition, and a desire to gain political muscle,' according to former deputy chief minister of Bihar and BJP Rajya Sabha MP Sushil Modi.

Why did Nitish broke-up with BJP?

The Mahagathbandhan, which is supported by seven parties and 164 MLAs in the 243-member Assembly, was revived when Nitish Kumar's JD(U) severed ties with the BJP in Bihar and joined up with the RJD. For the eighth time, Tejaswi Yadav, the head of the RJD, served as Kumar's deputy as he took the oath of office on Wednesday.

One of the reasons the JD(U) severed connections with the former grand alliance, or mahagathbandhan, in Bihar (of which the RJD was a part), and merged with the BJP-led NDA for the 2020 state elections was the RJD's alleged involvement in corruption.

Upon being questioned about if the BJP was found dozing off as Nitish broke the coalition, Modi responded, 'Nitish did not provide any hint of turbulence in the partnership during a call with (Union home minister) Amit Shah. We were certain he wouldn't change sides until the very last moment. He claims that we humiliated him today, but in reality, he betrayed the will of the people.

It is untrue that the BJP did not make an effort to save the partnership, he continued.

According to Shushil Modi, 'under Nitish Kumar's government, Bihar was experiencing a golden phase between 2005 and 2010.' Nitish did a fantastic job. But after Narendra Modi was declared the NDA's nominee for prime minister in 2013, Nitish began to think, 'If (former Gujarat CM) Narendra Modi can become prime minister, why can't I? According to Modi, who served as Bihar's finance minister from 2005 to 2013, the state's development trajectory began to stall after 2015.

After their coalition broke up, the BJP and JD(U) have traded accusations as to why and how it did.

The BJP has denied the JD(Accusations )'s that top BJP leaders were involved in the plan to split the party through former Union minister RCP Singh, who just left the JD(U). Instead, the party charged Nitish Kumar with “betraying coalition dharma.”

There were worries within the JD(U) that RCP Singh was in contact with a number of JD(U) MLAs and that this could lead to the party disintegrating like the Shiv Sena in Maharashtra.
