The Ranji One-Day Trophy, also referred to as the Vijay Hazare Trophy, is a one-day domestic cricket tournament held in India. The 2021-22 edition of the tournament was initially scheduled to start on 23 February 2022, but was later preponed to 1 December 2021 and then postponed again to 8 December 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The tournament was divided into six groups, with five Elite Groups comprising six teams each and the Plate Group consisting of eight teams. The winners of each Elite Group progressed directly to the quarter-finals, while the second-placed teams and the winner of the Plate Group played pre-quarter matches to determine the final eight teams.
Respective to their groups, Himachal Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Saurashtra, Kerala, and Services emerged victorious, enabling them to advance directly to the quarter-finals. Tripura won the Plate Group to progress to the preliminary quarter-finals, while Vidarbha, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan advanced to the preliminary quarter-finals, after finishing in second place in their respective groups.
During the quarter-finals, Himachal Pradesh defeated Uttar Pradesh by five wickets, while Tamil Nadu overpowered Karnataka by a margin of 151 runs. Saurashtra beat Vidarbha by seven wickets, and Services beat Kerala, also by the margin of seven wickets, in the other two quarter-final matches.
During the semi-finals, Himachal Pradesh defeated Services by 77 runs, thereby securing a spot in the final match. In the second semi-final, Tamil Nadu defeated Saurashtra by two wickets, thus securing their place in the final.
In the final match, Himachal Pradesh faced Tamil Nadu, and Himachal Pradesh emerged victorious, clinching their maiden Vijay Hazare Trophy title. Himachal Pradesh won the match by 11 runs, defeating Tamil Nadu by VJD method, which was held at Jaipur. Tamil Nadu has been the most successful team in the tournament, with five title wins. The tournament is named after the legendary Indian cricketer Vijay Hazare.
