Karnam Malleswari is the first Indian woman to win an Olympic medal, earning a bronze medal in the Weightlifting category at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. 

Karnam Malleswari was born in the small village of Srikakulam in Andhra Pradesh, India, in 1975. Her family was poor, but her parents saw potential in her and encouraged her to pursue her dreams.
