Let’s understand what is climate change, according to United Nations it is the long-term changes to weather and temperature patterns. These changes could be affected by natural processes, such oscillations in the solar cycle. But since the 1800s, human emissions the combustion of fossil fuels like coal, oil, and gas—have been the dominant cause of climate change. There has been an increase in 2 degrees of temperature since last century which is expected to increase by 3 degrees by the end of this century.
The main causes of these climate changes are human activities and there are ways to lower or slow it down. They are as follows:
1. Cut back in travelling:
flying leaves a tremendous amount of carbon emission that is CO2 as when someone wants to travel from London to Amsterdam one trip on an airplane will cost double that of taking a train and it even emits 10 times more of carbon emission than that of trains.
2. Avoid carbon emitting vehicles:
cars and petrol scooters use fuel to burn and emit the energy needed for the vehicle to move and it leaves a huge amount of CO2 in order to do so. Use bi-cycle or walking as much as possible as they are ecofriendly and healthy.
3. Use carpool system:
if driving is must while you and your coworkers are living nearby then taking one vehicle one person will cost and emit more carbon dioxide then taking one vehicle for 4-5 people as this will even be cheaper and might even help in bonding.
4. Reduce energy consumption:
save electricity and cut back on the emission energy like switch the lights off when you are not using it as it will save you money and you will be helping the environment. Replace the light bulbs to LEDs or low energy lights.
5. Protect green spaces around:
this is the only way that the bulk CO2 can be neutralized as plants inhale CO2 and exhale O2 which is the only way to naturally get O2 on which we survive and lessen the amount of CO2. Something even better then protecting the green spaces is to plant more trees take pledge to plant one tree during the rainy season and just take care of it for 2 years so that it is strong on its own.
6. Cut on hazardous wastes:
do not use polythene or plastic bags as they are not at all ecofriendly it takes decades even century to decompose one plastic bag, use eco-friendly products which can be decomposed without polluting the world around you. Like use earth pots for plantation etc.
7. Spread awareness: speak about the changes you are making in your life in order to promote the eco-friendly idea of living. So that more people will join the path of making a better place to live.
It is well said that “there is no Planet B,” so let’s start building ours.
