For a long time, Netflix was not the only streaming service in town. However, for many years, it was the primary destination for streaming shows and movies. However, much of the content that was once a Netflix mainstay has since vanished. Following the departure of Friends at the end of 2019, the Office left the service at the end of 2020.
The shows and movies that have left Netflix have found new homes on other streaming platforms. And, while Netflix has long faced competition from Hulu and Amazon Prime Video, that competition has only grown more intense over time. In addition to all of that, there's Disney+, HBO Max, Apple TV+, Peacock, and Paramount+, all of which are emphasising original content as a key component of their offerings to customers.
