Binge-watching can be a great way to relax and de-stress, but it can quickly become a problem if you prioritise it over other important activities on a regular basis.
Binge-watching, like gambling and other behavioural addictions, activates the part of our brain that is responsible for 'reward' functions, producing dopamine and making us feel good. However, as we develop tolerance, our brains produce less dopamine from the same level of activity.
It takes more and more of the same activity to produce the same level of enjoyment, making binge-watching TV shows all the more difficult to stop.
