Many networks, large and small, use star topologies. All nodes in a star topology are indirectly connected to one another via one or more switches. The switch serves as a hub through which all communications are routed.
Star topologies are commonly found in large organisations, such as educational institutions and businesses, where high performance is required.
They are also found in home networks, particularly wireless ones. A router with a wireless access point (WAP) serves as the central connection for all nodes in this case.
