A space station is a form of space habitat that can support a human crew in orbit for an extended period of time. It doesn't have any significant propulsion or landing systems. An orbital station, sometimes known as an orbiting space station, is a man-made satellite (i.e. a type of orbital spaceflight).
Docking ports are required on space stations to allow other spacecraft to dock and transfer people and supplies. Depending on the programme, the objective of maintaining an orbiting outpost varies. The majority of space stations have been launched for research purposes, however military launches have also taken place.
