Most CCTV cameras employ infrared (IR) technology to see at night. When you look at CCTV cameras that have night vision, you'll notice that they're surrounded by a slew of miniature LEDs. At night, these emit infrared light, allowing the camera to view even in complete darkness.
Because infrared light is undetectable to the naked eye, robbers are unable to detect the presence of a CCTV camera. This is due to the longer wavelength and lower frequency of infrared light compared to visible light. Overall, this implies that while your camera is releasing light to provide a clear image, the outside of your home will stay completely dark.
