• Ready Player One is the most prominent example of the metaverse, albeit not in the real world. It's a science fiction novel by Ernest Cline that depicts the metaverse in almost exact detail. The novel was published in 2011 and takes place in the year 2045 on Earth.
• The OASIS, the novel's central theme, is a massively multiplayer online simulation game where people can escape from reality. In OASIS, all players may engage with one another, play games, and shop for new artefacts. Players can also travel to different areas in the OASIS, and reality in the virtual world is entirely dependent on the imagination of the players.
