How do you print directly from the iPad without transferring files to a computer first? Is it possible?

The technique is very identical whether you want to print from your iPhone or iPad. The only distinction is the location of the share button (square with up arrow). Depending on whether you're in portrait or landscape mode, this button may move around.
Ascertain that your iPhone or iPad is connected to the same wireless network as your printer.
Locate the document, image, or other file that you want to print.
Select the share option (square with up arrow, available in almost all apps)
If you don't see the share option, tap your screen to see if it appears, or capture a screenshot (on recent iPhones, press the side button and volume up), then print from the Photos app.
Swipe down after hitting the share button and tap Print
If you haven't previously done so, select a printer.
In the top right corner, tap Print.
