  • DV, HDV, MPEG-2, AVCHD, H.264, MPEG4, and others are some of the common formats utilised by well-known camera makers.
  • H.264, commonly known as MPEG-4 AVC (Advanced Video Coding, MPEG-4 Part 10) is a popular standard used by both high-end and low-cost camcorders. This is a general word for any format that can capture HD and regular video.
  • Though magnetic tape camcorders are no longer widely used, the DV file format was created to save digital video on magnetic tapes, and HDV is the high definition version of the same format. The HDV format was established to serve as an economical high definition format for digital camcorders. It was first developed by JVC and then supported by Sony, Canon, and Sharp.
