  • The protection of data and information is the focus of information security. These two concepts can be confusing, but understanding the differences between them is critical when comparing infosec and cybersecurity. The distinction is extremely minor. Not all data is useful information. Information is data that has been understood in a context to generate some sort of meaning.
  • The study or application of systems (computers and telecommunications) for storing, retrieving, and transmitting information is known as information technology. Cybersecurity is not a subset or specialisation of information technology; it is a distinct field.
