AAA is a standards-based framework for controlling who is allowed to use
network resources (via authentication), what they are allowed to do (through authorization), and recording actions taken while on the network (through accounting).
Authentication - The process of determining if a user attempting to access network resources is valid or not by requesting credentials such as a username and password.
After a user has gained access to network resources through authentication,
authorization gives the ability to enforce policies on those resources.
Accounting - It allows for the monitoring and recording of events that occur while a user is utilising network resources. It even keeps track of how long the user has been connected to the network.
