The content will automatically flow from one column to the next if you create a document with columns (like some newsletter layouts do). For further control over the document format, you can enter your own column breaks.
Put your cursor where you'd like the column to end.
Breaks may be found under Layout > Breaks.
Click Page Layout > Breaks in Word 2013 or Word 2010.
There will be a menu with options presented. Then select Column.
There is a column break. To see it, go to Home > Show/Hide Paragraph Mark.
