- Use a relational database such as Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, or Microsoft Access to import data. Multiple tables can be imported at the same time.
- Import multiple tables from a variety of other data sources, such as text files, data streams, and Excel worksheet data. You can add these tables to Excel's Data Model, define relationships between them, and then create your PivotTable using the Data Model.
- When connecting to SQL Server, make sure you know the server name, database name, and credentials to use. The information you require can be obtained from your database administrator.
- Select Data > Get External Data > From Other Sources > SQL Server from the drop-down menu.
- Enter the network computer name of the SQL Server-running computer in the Server Name box.
- If you're connected as yourself, choose Use Windows Authentication in the Log on credentials box. In every other case, use the database administrator's login and password.
- Select the database you want in the Select Database and Table box, then click Enable selection of multiple tables.
- Manually choose the tables you wish to deal with if you know exactly which ones you want. Otherwise, select one or two tables, then click Select Linked Tables to have tables related to the ones you selected auto-selected.
- Keep the Import associations between chosen tables box checked to have Excel recreate identical table relationships in the workbook.
- Finish by clicking the Finish button.
- Select PivotTable Report from the Import Data dialogue box.
- To begin the import and populate the Field List, click OK.
