• Microsoft is abandoning Edge in favour of developing a new browser based on the Chromium rendering engine, which is popularised by Google's Chrome browser.
• The new browser, codenamed 'Anaheim,' is expected to replace Edge as the default browser on Windows 10, according to Windows Central. It's unclear whether the browser will be called Edge or if Microsoft will go with a different name. The implication is that EdgeHTML, the rendering engine that powers Microsoft's Edge browser, is no longer in use.
• Microsoft has attempted to pit its Edge browser against Google Chrome on numerous occasions. While Edge has a far longer battery life than Chrome, it falls short of Google's offering in areas such as extension support and ease of use. Because Microsoft is using Chromium as its rendering engine, its next browser will be able to emulate the behaviour of Google Chrome webpages.
