The Chinese government said Saturday that the country's first Mars rover would be called Zhurong after a fire hazard god.

The rover is onboard theTianwen-1 mission, which entered Mars orbit on February 24 and is scheduled to arrive in May to search for signs of improvement. It is a component of China's space goals, which also involve the launch of a crewed orbiting station and the landing of a person on the moon. In 2019, China has become the first nation to settle a space probe on the moon's little-explored far side, and in December, lunar rocks were returned to Earth for the first period since the 1970s.

Utopia Planitia, a rock-strewn area where the US spacecraft Viking 2 arrived in 1976, is now the most possible launch site. Tianwen-1's objectives, according to CNSA, include evaluating and charting the Martian landscape and geology, searching for water ice, and investigating the temperature and surface habitat. After the previous Soviet Union and the United States, China would be the 3rd nation to land a robot rover on Mars.
