The Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) in Chile was utilized by a group of scientists to detect a young star (protostar) in the WB89-789 area. It's in the furthest reaches of the Galaxy. Carbon-, oxygen-, nitrogen-, sulfur-, and silicon-bearing compounds were discovered by scientists. A protostar and its cocoon of extremely enhanced gas were found for the first occasion on the edge of our Galaxy.
TheAtacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) is an astronomical ensemble consisting of 66 telescopes located in northern Chile's Atacama Desert that observes electromagnetic waves at millimeter and submillimeter frequencies. The array was erected among the Llano de Chajnantor Observatory and the Atacama Pathfinder Experiment on the Chajnantor plateau at an altitude of 5,000 meters. This site was chosen because of its higher altitude and low humidity, both of which are critical for reducing noise and signal attenuation caused by the Earth's atmosphere. ALMA is projected to shed light on star creation during the early Stelliferous epoch, as well as provide comprehensive photography of nearby stars and planet creation.
ALMA is a collaboration between Europe, the United States, Canada, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and Chile. It is the most costly ground-based telescope in operation, costing around US$1.4 billion. ALMA began scientific discoveries in the second section of 2011, with the first photos provided to the public on October 3, 2011. Since March 2013, the arrays have been completely functioning.
