When you use Safari on your Mac, the default setting for web downloads is for them to open automatically. This can be a bothersome feature, especially if your workflow involves downloading stuff from the internet on a frequent basis.

Steps  to disable your Mac from automatically opening downloads from the web:

  • Click Safari in the menu bar to open it.
  • Select Preferences...
  • Make sure the General tab is selected at the top.
  • After downloading, uncheck the box next to Open 'safe' file.
