Armen Vardani Sarkissian is an
Armenian diplomat, physicist, and computer programmer who acted as Armenia's fourth president from April 9, 2018, to January 23, 2022. From 4 November 1996 to 20 March 1997, he was
Prime Minister of Armenia, and from 1998 to 2018, he was the nation's longest ambassador to the
United Kingdom. Sarkissian was appointed on March 2, 2018, and took office on April 9, 2018.

The president of Armenia
is the country's head of state and the guarantor of its independence and territorial integrity. He is appointed to a single seven-year term by the
Armenian National Assembly. The president is just a ceremonial figurehead in Armenia's parliamentary system, with the
Parliament and prime minister wielding the majority of political power. Since
Armen Sarkissian's resignation on January 23, 2022, Alen Simonyan has served as interim leader.
