To check a microphone that has previously been installed, do the following:

  1. Ascertain that your microphone is linked to your computer.
  2. Select Start > Settings > System > Sound from the Start menu.
  3. Look for the blue bar that rises and falls when you talk into your microphone in Sound settings, Input, and Test your microphone. Your microphone is operating properly if the bar moves.
  4. Select Troubleshoot to fix your microphone if you don't see the bar move.
