
On 21st May 1991, the former Prime Minister of India was assassinated which resulted in a ‘suicide bombing’ in
Sri Perumbudur, Chennai in Tamil Nadu.
Rajiv Gandhi was the upcoming new face of Indian politics and given the election candidate, he was going in the campaign rallies from one state to another. He was busy, campaigning with the
G K Moopanar in the southern part of India. After finishing his program in Andhra Pradesh he started moving to the next spot of the rally and that was the incident place Sri Perumbudur in Tamil Nadu.
Here the assassin ‘Thenmozhi Rajaratnam’ meet him and Bowed down to his feet and blasted herself. The explosion that was used in the explosion was RDX-explosive laden belt. Including the assassin, the other 14 members were killed and
43 others were injured badly.
