Neha Sinha is a wildlife conservationist who has won numerous awards. She studied biodiversity conservation at Oxford University on an INLAKS scholarship and currently works for the Bombay Natural History Society. She is also a well-known journalist who has spoken on environmental issues at Delhi University. Her favorite creatures are wild animals and books, in that order.

Book's description:

The wild, and the world in general, teaches us that we are a part of it, not proprietors of it.
Is there any other animal that we both love and despise as much as the Royal Bengal Tiger? Tigers are feared and hunted, but they persevere, becoming poster children for candlelight marches. Railway lines and fences have trapped Indian elephants, yet they are regaining their bodies and populating new places in central India. The gleaming Plain Tiger Butterfly thrives as one of our final links to nature in our polluted cities.

We have no control over wild creatures. They are mostly innocuous and only pose a threat on rare occasions. They live with us, or in opposition to us. Those who are familiar with wild animals understand that they must be accepted for who they are, not enslaved to become what we want them to be.

We meet fifteen classic Indian creatures in Wild and Wilful who are in desperate need of conservation and love. The author investigates what these creatures require, as well as how they exercise agency and make decisions. Wild and Wilful portrays the magic of the wild in our daily lives, with equal emphasis on human and animal, science, and skillful prose. It will transform you from dread to awe.
