What is big data?

More than 50 billion devices may get connected to the internet by 2020. In comparison to 2010, data production will be almost 44 times greater. Due to which tech advances, tremendous amounts of data are generated through the increased use of smart devices. Remote sensors, continuously generates greater volume of heterogeneous data that can be either structures or unstructured. All such data is known as Big Data.

Sources of Big Data : social media, twitter, youtube, instagram, facebook, mobile text messages, Google, IoT devices.
What is its nature :  It can be understood in terms of volume, variety, velocity, variability and veracity.
Vol - This refers to the quantity of generated and stored data sets.
Variety - It deals with the different types and nature of the data.
Velocity - The speed of data generation matters alot in case of Big Data.
Variability - In case of Big Data there is always some inconsistency associated with it.
Veracity  - The quality of the captured data varies affecting the accurate analysis of the large data sets.
