The Finance Minister “Nirmala Sitharaman” while presenting the Budget of 2019, proposed to launch a television program for promoting start-ups in India.

For which sector a new TV channel would be launched as announced in Budget 2019?

The proposed program will feature discussions over challenges faced by the start-ups, fund-raising companies, access to venture capital funds, and tax planning, among other things. It may be introduced on one of the existing channels on theDoordarshan’ Network or may introduce a completely new channel to fulfill the purpose. It is expected that this might serve as a platform for promoting start-ups, discussing issues affecting their growth, matchmaking with venture capitalists, and for funding and tax planning.

In the budget, she also said that the startups and investors who file requisite declarations will not be subjected to any kind of scrutiny in respect of valuation of share premium. With this initiative, the process of e-verification will be put in place and with this, the funds raised by the startups will not come under any type of tax scrutiny.

Sitharaman, who served as the Defence Minister in the first government led by PM Modi, presented her first budget at a time when India has lost its top spot as the world's fastest-growing major economy. The primary focus in the Budget is widely expected to be on ways to boost economic growth. India is now the 6th largest economy. 5 years ago it was 11th," the Finance Minister said, adding that India will become a $3 trillion economy this year.

The proposed channel will be broadcast from the Doordarshan platform and is to be aimed at inspiring and promoting start-ups across the country. As well as, the proposed channel shall be designed and executed by startups themselves.
